Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy is an exploratory therapy that looks into the past and unconscious thoughts to help you gain insight and understanding to the root of current problems. The premise is that people's thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and the choices they make are tied to earlier experiences. When one becomes aware of these connections, they can start the process of changing unhealthy patterns. For example, being mistreated as a child by a parent may contribute to fears of being abandoned in a current relationship or feeling unworthy of love in the relationship.
In psychodynamic therapy the client takes the lead by talking about problems and concerns. The therapist organizes the information, looking for patterns and themes. Psychodynamic therapy can be short-term, long-term or open-ended.
